Today’s ride home from work, in four photographs
El Gato Negro, one of my favorite bars that I’ve never set foot in.
Two horsemen.
Nine and a half headless clothehorsewomen.
And a newly discovered bird! I thought my little bird project might have run its course, and I nearly missed this one today since it wasn’t immediately obvious that there is a bird up there at the top of the sign. The hunt continues.

great pictures! especially the headless horsewomen — what colors!
May 13th, 2009 at 5:28 amI just happened across the Bonanza sign today and posted a pic of it for my Oakland signs feature. The clothehorsewomen picture is awesome.
I also spotted another ‘bird’ just down the block towards BART from Bonanza on the Bingo hall. There’s a flag pole leaning out above the door with an eagle on it.
May 13th, 2009 at 7:00 pmGene: I almost took a picture of the Bingo building yesterday too! (“Fruitvale Hall,” right?) I decided the big “for rent or sale” banner would ruin the photo, so I skipped it, but somehow I missed the eagle. That’s a great building—I hope someone buys or rents it and does something interesting with it. It could make a great cultural venue of some sort, especially since it’s only a block from the BART station.
May 13th, 2009 at 7:16 pmCool Picture but i wonder wht Bonanza was before. The sign appears to have had more on it originally unless the owners of the camping/surplus store just used the old name.
