Right Place, Right Time

I was lucky to be walking by Lake Merritt when a rainbow was hovering over the Oakland hills this afternoon. Having the moon hanging out above the right side of the rainbow was just a bonus:

If you like rainbows, you may want to click through for a larger version at Flickr.

(There may be some visible distortion in the image, because it was made by stitching two photos together. The widest angle on my lens still couldn’t fit the whole damn rainbow in one shot. In case anyone wants to see the originals, I also posted the left side and the right side at Flickr.)

    beautiful shot.

    Thanks, Mark!

I just stitched together another image from a different spot along the lakeshore. The rainbow might look slightly brighter in this one, but for some reason the moon is dimmer. In person, the rainbow was more vivid than it looks in either photo, or at least that’s how it seemed at the time.

    Rainbow over Oakland

    WOW!!
    (nice antidote to the rain!)

    More after-dote than ante-dote…

The second shot puts the end of the rainbow right on top of my apartment. I’ve been searching all morning for the pot of gold.

wordnerd: Anecdotally, it seems that most aunties dote, whether they’re ante-dotage or not. I’m pro-dote myself, as a matter of fact, even though I’m an anti-auntie, which is to say, an uncle. (Not a pro uncle, unfortunately—strictly amateur.)

Mark: I’ll be expecting a finder’s fee if you come across that pot.

“which is to say, an uncle”

    Never say Uncle!

I wonder what a “Pot of Gold” looks like at the end of an Oakland Rainbow.

I nteresting also you have high wispy clouds with the Rainbow and then the thick low cloudbank on the horizon.
