There is something “studied”, i.e. the opposite of casual about this structure. But I haven’t a clue what it is.

Why’d they have to black out the signs?

  4. dc says:

It’s an old sign above a closed business. I forget what the letters on the sign were, and what the business was. (It may actually have closed well before this latest recession was upon us.) I have no idea why they blacked out the letters; it used to be very colorful.

It’s the former Color Tile at 42nd and Broadway. Me, I always read it as “Fiesta CLUB” because that’s what another former Color Tile that I used to live near was turned into.

Ah, thanks for the reminder. Did all Color Tile outlets have the same cool (de)signs? It looks like the building that goes with the sign was most recently a salami and ravioli factory, although that’s now kaput too, as far as I could tell when I biked past it on Friday.

Good question. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any other Color Tiles than those two.

I also don’t know the full story behind Genova Delicatessen and when and why it was located there. I *think* that may have been just their temporary location while their Temescal store (in the strip mall at 51st and Telegraph) was being rebuilt. I believe they do the manufacturing now at their Walnut Creek location.
