I give up — what is it?!
March 3rd, 2009 at 6:51 amThere is something “studied”, i.e. the opposite of casual about this structure. But I haven’t a clue what it is.

Why’d they have to black out the signs?
March 3rd, 2009 at 5:42 pmIt’s an old sign above a closed business. I forget what the letters on the sign were, and what the business was. (It may actually have closed well before this latest recession was upon us.) I have no idea why they blacked out the letters; it used to be very colorful.
March 3rd, 2009 at 11:14 pmIt’s the former Color Tile at 42nd and Broadway. Me, I always read it as “Fiesta CLUB” because that’s what another former Color Tile that I used to live near was turned into.
March 9th, 2009 at 2:04 pmAh, thanks for the reminder. Did all Color Tile outlets have the same cool (de)signs? It looks like the building that goes with the sign was most recently a salami and ravioli factory, although that’s now kaput too, as far as I could tell when I biked past it on Friday.
March 9th, 2009 at 2:41 pmGood question. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any other Color Tiles than those two.
I also don’t know the full story behind Genova Delicatessen and when and why it was located there. I *think* that may have been just their temporary location while their Temescal store (in the strip mall at 51st and Telegraph) was being rebuilt. I believe they do the manufacturing now at their Walnut Creek location.
